Midterms On Midterms On Midterms

The Inevitable Responsibilities of a College Student

Midterm week is approaching each and every one of us! Therefore, I want to make sure that my fellow students understand how to destress before we crumble under the weight of expectations and work! (This is also just a blog post to help me organize my thoughts as I have to deal with three back to back midterms in a row!)

1) I believe the most important part of destressing is realizing the reason for what you are doing. Finding the intrinsic motivation and the passion behind your actions will help you to realize that your stress will be worthwhile! I do my homework because I want to attain grades that would impress my family and myself! Therefore, I channel my stress into something productive such as putting my time and energy into finishing up an assignment rather than moping around. Finding your reason for doing this will allow you to push forward through all of your obstacles!

2) Destressing also requires time management and organization! I want to be able to put time aside for my friends, myself, and for my cats! Therefore, I do a little bit of homework each day and space out my assignments, meetings, and other events. This will prevent me from being overworked on one day and completely free on another. I prefer to have balance in my life and by gradually working with my schedule and finishing up my obligations, I find myself working with the least stress possible.

3) Lastly, destressing requires a lot of self-care! Self-care is important and you can use different venues to care for yourself. Many people prefer to take a nice bath after a long day. Others may want to host their own spa day at home. My form of self-care usually involves relaxing at home, in front of my computer playing games all day long. I take a moment to take deep breaths and I make sure that I always understand the difference between making up excuses for not doing my homework in the form of self-care and actual self-care.

Overall, midterms are upon us and I wish every one of my classmates' fortune in their studies! I hope that we all stay strong throughout this mid-semester and I hope that none of us become burned out by our workload.

  1. Hi, Chelle! I just wanted to say that I love the idea of you sharing different tips on how to de-stress during one of the most frustrating times of every college students' semester. Self-care is definitely important and something everyone should do on a daily basis! Whether it be taking an evening walk, reading a book, spending time with loved ones, or practicing deep breathing. Best of luck during your midterms!

  2. Hi Michelle,
I am all about self-care and making sure there is a healthy balance in my life between school, my relationship, friends and work. It is so easy to forget that as students, we have a life outside of studying. Because my mental health is so important to me, and building habits that help me feel good about myself and make sure I don't stress out our get anxiety, I need to have self care every week. Sometimes it's going to the gym, or doing a face mask, or doing a little retail therapy, everything and anything to help me.

  3. I also used to oppress myself a lot on grades and tasks, but now I tend to cool off with it even though sometimes it still brings anxiety back. Life is not perfect, why so fuss about whats going to move on anyways? I consider that as my motto whenever I face with obstacles.
