Praising Bangkok Chef!

Bangkok Chef located near Costco, Home Depot, and Lowe's in Dillingham Blvd has become one of my favorite places to eat here in Hawaii! I recall the first time I ate here. It was on one of my first dates with my boyfriend and he suggested that we eat Thai food before grabbing macarons at the La Tour Cafe within the same vicinity. At the time, we were two broke college students and were incredibly nervous around each other (and half of this statement has changed since then). I had also never eaten Thai food before and so this would be my first encounter with the cuisine. I went with what I believe was the safest option on their menu: the Pad Si You. Much like the Pad Thai but with wider rice noodles which I very much enjoy! My boyfriend ordered the Yellow Chicken Curry with Jasmine Rice.

I was extremely hungry that day and my mouth watered as I watched the waitress appear with the food in her hands. As she placed our plates in front of us, I was surprised by the very large portions that were given. I don't usually have a small appetite and can eat a lot on certain occasions, but the portions here were incredibly satisfying and helped to curb my insatiable desire to eat Thai food. Overall, I look back on that day with fondness and happiness. I enjoyed the close company and I enjoyed the food and ambiance of the entire restaurant.

It has been roughly two years since that initial visit and I still regularly go to Bangkok Chef. The restaurant has opened my eyes and helped me to truly appreciate Thai food. I've tried many of their dishes since then including their: lemongrass grilled chicken, papaya salad, yellow chicken curry, pad thai and more.

Once you've enjoyed a new cuisine outside of your own taste palette, you can never go back. I continue to crave Thai food on different occasions, which has never happened prior to eating Thai food for the first time. I've always wanted to try many diverse foods from different backgrounds and I've finally crossed of Thai cuisine off the list.

I am also open to trying more Thai food from other restaurants. Hopefully one day I am able to try a truly authentic, homey Thai cuisine meal.
