Popeyes Chicken Sandwich Review

Is The New Popeyes Chicken Sandwich Worth It?

So must of you have probably realized that the new Popeyes chicken sandwich has finally come to Hawaii after months of circulating around the mainland. I'm not on social media anymore but even I could see that the new sandwich was blowing everyone's minds. There were Youtube videos made about it, memes made about it, and everywhere I went people were talking about trying the new sandwich. There was also a full-blown argument between fans of other fast food restaurants and fans of Popeyes. It got real serious, real fast.

I'm not one to bandwagon or to jump in on the hype and as someone who's not really into sandwiches that much, I found myself not as excited as my other friends. A few days ago, I went to my local Popeyes and was met with a long line of people waiting for their sandwich. People really drove to the Popeyes just to order a sandwich. I guess I'd understand them if the sandwich was a boba drink instead.

Anyway, just yesterday my dad actually managed to get his hands on the sandwich. I have to thank him later for waiting in that painstakingly long line just to get a sandwich for dinner. When I got home, I immediately rushed towards the kitchen in search for the sandwich. I would be okay with not trying it but if that darn sandwich was near me, I just had to test out whether or not it was worth the hype.

My dad ordered the regular chicken sandwich and later I was told by my boyfriend that the spicy version was actually better.

However, the regular chicken sandwich was surprisingly good. Was it worth waiting almost an hour in line? I don't think so. Was it an item that you would buy again from the menu? Yeah, I can definitely see that.

Smack dab between two soft, moistened buns was a giant hunk of real original Popeye's chicken. The chicken was great and even after an entire day in the fridge, it was still surprisingly moist, soft, and tasty. The buns, soggy after a day, were also still tasty.

Either way, the Popeye's chicken sandwich is a good 7/10. But it's definitely not worth waiting in line for. I could also do without getting it when I get Popeye's the next time.

  1. Aloha Michelle, Thank you for doing this. I too was thinking about it but wasn't in the "I need to have it and I will stay in line for an hour to have it". LOL I can see how it is good cause I already like their chicken so I imagined it just the way you describe it their chicken smacked in the middle of two pieces of bread. Mmm good. I will wait for the hype to die down but I am in no rush to try it now that you validated what I was thinking about it! Mahalo!

  2. Hey Michelle, I was one to hop on the bandwagon and wait in that line but thankfully it only took 20 minutes (which i thought was going to be just about an hour). People in line started to leave so it started to make me second guess me and my boyfriend waiting in line for a sandwich but we pulled through. Now thinking about it, the hype was just too crazy for me and i think that it was just too much for just a sandwich!

  3. Hi Michelle, thank you for sharing your experience with the chicken sandwich! I was able to get my hands on one on the third day since it was released in all Hawaii Popeyes location. My mom wanted to try it out so she dropped me off to go in line in person. Since there were about 20 cars lined up. The line going inside the Popeyes had about 10 people, but the employees did not let them inside yet. Once it was time the employee only let six people inside. Surprisingly I was able to get inside as the first group. I ordered 2 spicy and 2 chicken. The size of the chicken was very big and I was very stuffed until night time. I think it was worth the wait but I wouldn't eat it frequently.

  4. Oh thanks for sharing your review on the Popeye's Sandwich. So much hype on this and I was starting to wonder if I should bite the bullet and wait in line to try one. I decided not to since I have a life lol but I'm glad your dad was brave enough to fight the crowds and wait in line for you. Super sweet of him!

  5. Hi Michelle, thanks for writing about this. There's nothing that makes me happier than food. My friend actually waited in line the day after it started to sell it, and bought me a spicy chicken sandwich. I actually have had Chik-Fila when I was in Portland, and honestly, Popeye's sandwich is way better. There's so much more flavor and the spicy, is actually spicy. Whereas the chik-fila spicy sandwich is just a mild flavor and you need to add sauce to it to make it more tasty. It was worth the wait and the hype, but definitely not something I can eat every week. It's a good treat yourself meal and only if the wait isn't over 20 minutes.
